ACTION REQUIRED: Important information for Bingopalooza ticket holders

Dear Friends of ABWA Imperial River Chapter –

We hope you are doing well and staying safe. You’re receiving this communication because you are a ticket holder for our Bingopalooza event. This event was originally scheduled for April and was postponed to August.

We now know that the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic will be more long-term than initially anticipated. We can’t produce this event without seating limitations at the venue related to social distancing requirements. These seating limitations have resulted in our inability to make a live fundraising event profitable at this time. Therefore, we are transforming Bingopalooza into a new event – the “Black Friday Palooza” prize drawing.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

We will draw the winning tickets either live at Palm City Brewery (off the Alico corridor), OR we will do it live on Zoom. Either way, no more postponements will be necessary – the drawing date will be Thursday November 19th at 8:00 PM.

WHAT ARE THE PRIZES?
Black Friday Palooza offers the following prizes:

  • THIRD PRIZE: $100 gift certificate for Mary Kay Cosmetics, donated by Gail Langner, Mary Kay Consultant (and our Chapter Secretary!)
  • SECOND PRIZE: 90-minute virtual consultation with Mission Organizing, for your home office or any room in your house. Value $150, donated by Nancy Rivera, Professional Organizer
  • GRAND PRIZE: A Coach handbag containing $500, just in time for Black Friday shopping.

CAN I GET A REFUND INSTEAD?
Of course you can, but we hope you will stay in it to win it!

WHAT’S MY NEXT STEP?

  • OPTION A: REQUEST A REFUND

Take action to request a refund. EMAIL US at Info@ABWAImperialRiver.org BY AUGUST 1st, 2020.

  • OPTION B: STAY IN IT TO WIN IT!

Do nothing! If we do not receive your refund request by August 1st, we will enter your name in the Black Friday Palooza drawing 3x for every $45 ticket you purchased.

We are disappointed that we don’t get to see you in August, but excited about being able to offer some great prizes while continuing to raise funds for the education and professional development of local business women in Lee County.

We really hope we get to do the Black Friday Palooza drawing in person come November. As the time draws closer, we’ll be in touch to let you know how it’s going to go. Until that time, be safe and well, everyone.

ABWA Imperial River Chapter names “Woman of the Year”

Fort Myers, FL, March 13th, 2020 – The Imperial River Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) has named Erin White, owner of Paradise Coast Consulting, LLC, as their “Woman of the Year”. The initial vote resulted in a tie, triggering a run-off, with White emerging as the winner. “I am truly honored to be chosen by my peers in a fair contest,” said White.

White has been a member of ABWA since 2014, when she joined the Sanibel Captiva Charter Chapter, eventually serving as webmaster and as Vice President of that Chapter. She has also served as the Finance Officer of ABWA’s Southwest Florida Council, and is the Council’s current Vice President. In 2016, White joined forces with a small group of ABWA members from all over Southwest Florida to create a new chapter formation. While ABWA chapters existed in both Fort Myers and Naples, the Estero/Bonita Springs area lacked an ABWA presence.

“This woman is a visionary,” said Debra Lee Nashed, owner of Debonair Concierge Travel and a former Woman of the Year herself. “She saw a void and used her skill and knowledge to help fill it, to bring the benefits of ABWA membership to women in the southern part of Lee County. She put us on the map and streamlined our processes, bringing us into the 21st century. We are lucky to have her all the way from Wall Street!”

March 13th – Speed Networking comes to Fort Myers

Speed Networking comes to Fort Myers, March 13, 6 to 8 PM

The Imperial River Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) hosts Speed Networking at the Holiday Inn Fort Myers Airport. Network and dine on Wednesday March 13, 2019 from 6 to 8 PM.  Event plus St. Patrick’s Day-themed dinner, $35 on Eventbrite.

Speed networking derives from speed dating, a round-robin style of meeting potential new romantic interests. It was developed by a rabbi in the late 1990s. The goal is to meeting and having brief but meaningful exchanges with as many fellow participants as possible during timed intervals.

Speed networking has been used to expand both social and professional networks.  Both structure and time limits remove the anxiety often experienced when meeting new people. The format mitigates awkwardness associated with starting and ending conversations with strangers.

Normal principles of networking still apply:

  • Be genuine and approachable.
  • Focus on giving rather than getting.
  • Prioritize quality over quantity.
  • Approach the event with the goal of creating long-term, mutually beneficial business and social relationships.

What is “rebooting your life”?

The necessity to “reboot” often comes as a natural occurrence resulting from normal life transitions, such as changing jobs, the end of a relationship, or other crossroads-type events.  Psychology Today asserts that “rebooting your life” includes focusing on solutions, not problems.  The Huffington Post has described the reboot process as a kind of 21 day mediation program .  Jenn Smith believes that  “rebooting” refers to how we remake ourselves and find the balance between what we want and what we do as career women.

Join ABWA Imperial River Chapter as entrepreneur, wife, mother, grandmother, and current Editor in Chief of Happy Dolphin Press Jenn Smith discusses “Rebooting your life.”  She will also share some great apps to help make finding (and keeping) that balance as your business grows.

ABWA Imperial River meets requirements for new chapter installation

ABWA Imperial River Chapter (in formation) - gathered for the 2016 Holiday Quarter Auction, December 14th 2016ABWA Imperial River meets requirements for new chapter installation

ESTERO, FL – ABWA Imperial River Chapter “in formation” has successfully met the requirements for new chapter installation in the American Business Women’s Association. Women of the organization attended a formal installation ceremony and celebration on Wednesday December 13th at at Holiday Inn Fort Myers Airport

Erin White, President & CEO of Paradise Coast Consulting LLC
Erin White

Nearly two years ago, a half-dozen professional women from existing ABWA chapters in Southwest Florida realized that a growing area of the region was underserved by the organization. “We had chapters in Fort Myers and in Naples, but nothing in between,” says Erin White, Vice President of the Sanibel-Captiva Charter Chapter, and owner of Paradise Coast Consulting in Fort Myers. “We knew that professional women in Estero and Bonita Springs deserved an opportunity to develop and grow in a nurturing, supportive environment”.

The new formation team busied themselves with building monthly professional development programming, presented in a relaxed dinner-and-networking setting. Early support and enthusaism from the management at Holiday Inn Fort Myers Airport contributed greatly toward the success of the new formation. Local luminaries such as Tiffany Esposito (Bonita Springs Chamber of Commerce), Connie Ramos-Williams (Conric PR & Marketing), and Suzanne Specht (Small Business Development Center at FGCU) were among the Imperial River Chapter’s earliest speakers. More recently, speakers have included Jason Dolle of Testimonial Tree, Jude Griffin (CEO, Southwest Florida Transportation), and Melanie Payne of the News-Press (formerly known as “Tell Mel”).

Shelia Bedwell
Shelia Bedwell

Shelia Bedwell, long-time member of the Palms of Edisonia Chapter in Fort Myers, eagerly lent her wisdom and expertise to the formation of the Imperial River Chapter. “The members of Imperial River are the most gracious, caring ladies and are constantly lifting each other up,” Shelia says. “We are an awesome group!”

Debra Lee Nashed

Debra Lee Nashed is the owner of Debonair Concierge Travel, and the current ABWA Southwest Florida Council “Woman of the Year”. Nashed states, “It was quite an accomplishment to enroll enough new members to become an official chapter of ABWA! We have a wonderful group of women supporting each other.”

Lynda Rubenstein
Lynda Rubenstein

The formation team was led by former Lee County Guardian Ad Litum, Lynda Rubenstein, a veteran past officer of several ABWA chapters, and the current Vice President of ABWA’s Southwest Florida Council. “My mood brightens when I enter the meeting room and am greeted by the incredible women of the Imperial River Chapter of ABWA,” says Rubenstein. “Their diverse professions and personalities have meshed like a beautiful symphony. I am so proud to have been a member of the formation team that successfully created our Chapter”.

July 12th – Amy Genzlinger, “Art From The Heart”

Amy Gentzlinger, Art From The Heart, at ABWA Imperial River July 11th 2017July 12th – Amy Genzlinger, “Art From The Heart”

ABWA Imperial River Chapter presents Amy Genzlinger, “Art From The Heart”, Wednesday July 12th at 6:00 PM.

A professional artist, interior designer, speaker, and trainer, Amy Genzlinger works with people to help them create environments where they feel peaceful, joyful, and inspired. In February of 2015, Genzlinger awoke from open heart surgery only to discover that she had lost her voice. Amy Gentzlinger, Art From The Heart, at ABWA Imperial River July 11th 2017Vocal cord paralysis is a common by-product of neck surgery, but less common among heart surgery patients. “I felt utterly disheartened and depressed,” says Genzlinger. “My only comfort was art”. Genzlinger found that art provided an expressive outlet that her vocal cords no longer could. “Collage art allowed me to communicate in a new and powerful way,” she says. “Being creative helped me refocus my purpose and appreciate my life again!”.

Additional surgery has resulted in the return of her vocal ability, and Genzlinger is now focused on facilitating alternate means of expression for others. “I want to give people the opportunity to practice another form of communication and expression,” she says. Genzlinger’s art parties are for participants of all ages. “If you can glue it, you can do it!”, she declares.
