BIOGRAPHY: Ita M. Neymotin is is the youngest attorney and the first female appointed in the State of Florida as Regional Counsel. She is currently serving in her second term as Regional Counsel for the Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel, Second District Court of Appeal. In 2011, Ms. Neymotin was nominated by the Supreme Court of Florida Judicial Nominating Committee, appointed by Governor Rick Scott, and confirmed by the Florida Senate. As Regional Counsel, she manages 140 attorneys and staff throughout the fourteen counties of the Second District of Florida. Ms. Neymotin is a death penalty litigator and tries death penalty cases in the Second District.

Ms. Neymotin escaped soviet oppression as a child when she and her parents immigrated to the United States as political refugees from the Former Soviet Union. As such, she is a passionate defender of inalienable human rights and a strong legal advocate for the citizens of Florida. Recently, Ms. Neymotin traveled to the Ukraine after being invited by the Ukrainian government to join round table discussions in Kiev, Ukraine advancing Ukraine’s democratic laws. Furthermore, they discussed the proposed implementation of their new criminal code of procedure, which was implemented. In June of this year, Ms. Neymotin, along with several elected officials, hosted a delegation from the Republic of Belarus on its recent unprecedented Southwest Florida visit to discuss our criminal justice system and to explore mutual economic opportunities between the two countries. This led to the forging of a sister-city agreement between Fort Myers, Florida and Gomel, Belarus.

Currently Ms. Neymotin is a member of the Florida Bar Grievance Committee, a Member of the Florida Supreme Court Commission of Professionalism Rule Sub-committee; and has recently been appointed to the Florida Supreme Court’s Task Force on Substance Abuse and Mental Health Issues in the Courts. Ms. Neymotin is also Chair of the Local Professionalism Panel for the Twentieth Judicial Circuit, and is a frequent speaker on professionalism issues for agencies and conferences across the globe. Recently, she was on the Women in Leadership Panel, sponsored by Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio. Ms. Neymotin was also on the Naples Got Civility Panel in Florida. Ms. Neymotin was a Legal Writing Professor at Ave Maria School of Law. Currently she volunteers as a Professor at Ave Maria School of Law, teaching Advanced Florida Criminal Law and Procedure. Ms. Neymotin was the recipient of Capital University Law School’s 2015 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award. Ms. Neymotin was also the recipient of the 2015 Medal of Honor Award from The Collier County Bar Association. She was the recipient of the 2015 Commissioner’s Award of Franklin County, Ohio. Ms. Neymotin translated and edited two books on civil liberties. The first was written by her grandfather entitled “The Story Of My Life” a biography of his survival under Soviet Communism. The second entitled “Hunted By The Hammer And Sickle” is her father’s account of her families escape from the Soviet Union. In addition, she was recognized for her dedicated service to Criminal Justice in 2013 from the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Ms. Neymotin’s received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English holding academic Honors at The Ohio State University. She received a Juris Doctorate Degree with Honors from Capital University Law School. Ms. Neymotin received her Master of Laws in Business Degree from Capital University Law School.

Ms. Neymotin’s professional memberships include the Florida State Bar. The Supreme Court of the United States, The United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, The New Jersey State Bar, and The New Jersey Federal Bar. Her professional experience consists of working as an Assistant State Attorney, an Assistant Public Defender, private practice, and an Assistant Regional Counsel Circuit Chief.
